2020 Merlot Columbia Valley

Ripe berries and black plum with clove, forest and leather greet the nose. Dark fruit notes are echoed on a moderately weighted palate with smooth tannins. Dried herbs and chocolate ganache are layered with juicy ribbons of huckleberry and strawberry that remain throughout a plush finish.

"Blueberry, cedar, leather and cigar box aromas are only half the show with this fantastic Merlot. A big bowl of blackcap raspberries and candied lemon peels perfectly matches the wine's slippery texture and juicy acidity. Velvety tannins close the deal. Editor's Choice." M.A. Wine Enthusiast "A savory mix of crushed cherries, blackberries, sage and sweet lavender keeps me coming back to the 2020 Merlot again and again. This is round and soothing with velvety textures lifted by brisk acids, as tart red fruit and savory inner spice add tension toward the close. It leaves a staining of primary concentration, as echoes of blueberry and wild herbal tones slowly face over a coating of gently grippy tannins." Vinous, 94 pts. "Do not miss out on the gorgeous 2020 Abeja Merlot (OB, 94) which is also very dense and layered, showing a very soft texture... For years Abeja has made a very strong reputation for Merlot wines. This edition has just a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon blended in and is sourced from the Abeja Estate, Mill Creek and Sagemoor Farms properties. Silky and pillowy on the mouth, this unveils chocolate covered red raspberry, sagebrush and loamy soil notes on the palate, with scorched earthy accents. With good viscosity and verve, this is fantastic stuff to consume now and over the next eight years. Drink 2023-2031" Owen Bargreen, 94 pts. "Blackcurrants, darker cherries, leafy herbs, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2020 Merlot, a round, supple, seamless Merlot with a great mid-palate as well as sweet tannins. It's a beautiful effort to drink over the coming decade. The blend is 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 22 months in 34% new French oak." Jeb Dunnuck, 94 pts.
